• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a TK-2207 (yes, from Singapore) and am trying to get it into programming mode to make the connection to my PC. It looks like it is most closely related to the 2160 in the USA. Anybody have any ideas on how to enter this mode? Thank you for any help you can give.

There is no programming mode with the 2160. Just make sure the software is set for the correct com port, and you should be in business.

I thought that would be the problem, but turns out that wasn't it. I have a USB programming cable and have installed a "generic" usb-serial driver because the cable I bought didn't come with one. I have tried all com ports and still not connecting properly. Any ideas?? Just to clear up...I should just have to install the driver, plug in the cable and turn on the radio and then read/write from the radio via the programming software?

Thanks.

Sounds like a USB converter / driver problem. I keep a dedicated programming laptop with a true RS-232 serial port just to avoid the USB converter issues.

I just purchased one of these radios and it came with the supplied software. I have the cable hooked up to COM1 on my computer, the other end of my radio. In the software, I can, under the Tools Menu, view the radio information (serial no, frequency range, model type, and firmware version); however, I can not read or write data to/from the radio. The software seems to freeze on 0%.

Any advice?

I seem to have resolved my own issue. I failed to realize that you had to press "OK" to start the read/write transfer. I assumed that when I gave the read/write command and the progress bar became visible, that no further action was required on my part.

Hopefully this helps someone else experiencing similar issues.
