• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The latest and greatest from KWD is Rev 23 (F8EF). Whatchu got?

Not sure, Ive read the radio but i cant find anywhere in the software telling me what the version of the firmware it has.
Ive also tried holding down the different buttons and turning it on, but still no luck.
The software is version 2.01.

Hope this helps,
Thanks

it appears that the version of KPG38D that is listed in the photo above, is the DOS version, which i am unable to run.
I am using the Windows version of the KPG38D.

Yes I guess it is, however it is really Fpro that is used for firmware flash which is basically the same for DOS or windows, not KPG38D.

What I was trying to get you to do is get the checksum of the radio, which is in essence the version number of your firmware.

Desperately searching for TK-290 firmware

Sooo. Does anyone have the latest firmware for the Kenwood TK-290 or am I now the proud owner of a paperweight with an antenna? I don't understand why Kenwood is so protective of their software. The radio is becoming dated I would imagine its not a detriment anymore and they could release it to the public. I'm not sure they understand that there a LOT of police departments operating on breadcrumb budgets and do not provide the necessary equipment to their officers. I thought I was getting a good deal on a narrowbanding VHF that I could actually transmit and receive dispatch with at work. I should have saved up the few extra $$$ and purchased a new radio instead of getting ripped off on ebay buying a radio I cant even use. Thanks for nothing Kenwood!!! Way to support your customers and the law enforcement community. Definitely a mistake I will not be making again.
