TK-3180 Programing Lock?

Hi,

First time posting here
I recently picked up a used kenwood TK-3180 (UHF) on eBay cheep as beans and would like to reprogram it for amature use. I have programing cable and software but the problem I'm running into is that the radio has a programing lock set of it that will not allow me to program the radio from software. Upon trying to acsess the radio it prompts for an 8 digit code. I am assuming this was set by the dealer that sold this radio to the previous owner that appears to have been a public saftey agency of a member of one. What I would like to be able to do is just clear out the radio and start over. Any one have any info on if there is a way around the request for code to program.

Have you tried all zeros or 12345678?

I have tried most of the combinations of that type (12345678 , 00000000 Etc.)

Depending on how new the software you are using, you are going to want to find an "engineer serial number" and re-install the software using it rather than the serial number you used to do your original software install.

If I remember correctly you could also set the password as a read protect only or a read / write protect. Have you tried to just write a blank code plug into the radio without reading it? That should take away a read password. But that may not be true for that model. It's been a while since I've programmed a Kenwood
