• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have found conflicting information regarding this radio. I would like to know if it is indeed narrowband compliant. The model number is TK-370(N), it is not a TK-370G(N). I Can read/write to it using KPG-27D, but not KPG-56D. This makes me suspicious of it's ability to be compliant.

Does anyone here have any information?

I have spoken with Kenwood support directly. The person that I spoke with said that it is narrowband capable, and that there is a w/n switch within the programming software. I have KPG-27D v5.00. This is the version of the software that the technician says was the final release before discontinuation. I have scoured every screen of this software after reading the radio codeplug and find no such thing. I think that he is not understanding what I have been emphasizing. These are TK-370(N), not TK-370G(N).

I have worked on some of these over the last couple of years and have found that a plain 370 is not narrow bandable.

I have also found that there were some N models that where released in 2000 (at the end of the production period), that were narrow only.

Any radio made before 2000 are not narrow bandable.

Baloney.

I have MTS2000s, MT2000 and HT1000 rev DNs that are ALL fully narrowband compliant including splinter channels. There were many radios that support narrow band made before 2000. All of those were made in early 1998, the HT1K was made in November of 1997.

I have an Astro Spectra made in Dec 1997 that came straight from the factory that way.

Check your facts.
