If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I'm looking for help with programming a TK-380 -3 radio. I assume this is the European version, and I am using the KPG-60D (Version 2.00) programming software. I have also tried the KPG-49D software with the same issue. Connecting with the KGP-36 programming cable. I have both connector styles Serial and USB. The issue I have is when I try to read the radio I receive an error message that states "Check Radio Type, Retry or Cancel". The display shows "program" but that is as far as it goes. I made sure that I selected the TK-380 (Portable: UHF) and I tried all band splits, with the same results. I have tried this on 3 different computers using both programming cables and still get the same error. I'm thinking the firmware is the issue, when I power it up holding the "D" button the display reads ESN 36/01/013922 turning the channel selector changes it to S/N 31201795 and finally it shows VER MPT W1.56. Then powering on holding the "A" button and pressing the upper side button displays the MPT W1.56 screen, then pressing the lower side button displays SUM = [6433]. I wonder if this is the wrong firmware.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I apologize for the long post.
Thank-you in advance!
Mike

Yes, the model number and firmware don't jive. The firmware is for a MPT trunking radio and I believe uses KPG-62D to program. Looks like the original firmware for the radio was replaced at one time. Factory built unit should have a model number of TK-385.

Firmware is technically not sold. Any Kenwood dealer will have access to it but they may want to do it for you with a nominal charge. If you want it for DYI, Kenwood tech support has been known to pass it out if you ask nice.

I was able to convince a Kenwood dealer to send me both versions of the TK-380 software, version-1 and version-2. These files are good for the TK-280, TK-380, TK-780 & TK-880. I was able to flash all but the two 380's with the MPT W1.56 firmware in them. I have 6 - 880's, 2 - 780's 2 - 280's and 4 - 380's. The display shows "data wrong" and that is as far as it goes. Same error with both versions of the firmware. Does anyone have any advice to point me in the right direction to correct this issue. Thank-you any suggestions would be most welcome and appreciated.
