To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So, I purchased a Tk-380 HT and the triangle on the KENWOOD logo is red and on the back of the HT it indicates "Ver 2.0." However, when I go into the KGP-49D software and write to the radio it says the radio is not a Version 2 Production Radio (paraphrasing) and the V2 features will not be available.

When I boot the radio is displays VER: 1.5209

Is this just a matter of upgrading firmware or ... ? Any ideas? Maybe someone swapped out the internals as some point?

Thanks for any help you might provide.

What do you mean "VER:1.5209" on boot up, when you turn the radio on?

Need the checksum of the firmware to confirm it is indeed V2. Hold the "S" key down during power up and the screen will display "PROG 57600". Then press the upper side button to get the checksum. This will be a four digit hex number. If this does not work you'll have to enable it in software under optional features > firmware programming.

Somebody may have dumped the wrong firmware into it.

Also a thought, if you are trying to use extended fleetsync functions, those need to be checked to enable under the model type.

Radio has passport firmware installed, you will need to obtain the normal version

Aye, the version number displays when I power on.

The checksum is 65BF.

Any ideas where I could find the version 2 firmware data file?

Thanks everyone!

Firmware is available from Kenwood dealers. When you get a couple more posts under your belt, PM me and I'll walk you through it.

I too have this issue. Just received the radio today. When I check the firmware I get r0.11 [B9D2] When I try to program it it tells me its not v2. Then I get LTR Net Firm. So I can assume I need the v2 firmware also?

Add me to this list... I have three TK-380's that I'm unable to read from or write to which show "LTR Net Firm." If DEDROBERTS or n0akf got this figured out, please let me know...

I took the radio to a local Kenwood commercial shop and they could not do anything with them either. I was able to get my money back from the seller. I was hoping it would work.

Looking for some insight...

Hi everyone,

I can see that this is about a year or so old post, I just purchased a TK 380 radio and am fairly familiar with the programming of it...but I have also run in to the Version 2 LTR NET FIRM issue I check the other part I also have r0.11 [B9D2]...

Has anyone had any further luck in fixing this issue?

Thanks,
Tom
