To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a TK-380 and I am trying to get two tone decode to work.
I do not see any two tone options in the RSS. I am using KPG-49D on windows.

Do all these radios have this enabled or does it require an option board?

Any help appreciated.

Kenwood TK-380 2-tone

Hello,

If you are using your 380 in trunking format the radio will not do 2-tone. However if you are using your portable in the conventional only format, you can find the 2-tone options under the Edit menu. I have run into this problem many times before and this is usually the case. I am not sure why Kenwood doesn't offer 2-tone while in trunking on that model. Hope this helps.

I am using the radio with one LTR system in it, and the rest conventional.

So even on a conventional system I cannot get two tone when there is an LTR system in there.

I thought I had the holy grail. I need a radio that will do LTR for my town's system and two tone so I can get my pages from the county 911 center. Can anyone recommend the correct radio I need?

TK-380 2-tone

If you want a Kenwood that will do LTR and Conventional and be able to use the 2-tone feature you will need to step up to the replacement for the TK-380 which is the TK-3180. This is a much nicer and more user friendly radio and will allow you to do exactly what you want to do.

When you setup you radio you have the option to set the radio as conventional or trunking format. When you select trunking format, you loose the 2-tone ability. If you would set it as conventional, you will then have the option back. If you really need to keep your LTR system, then you'll have to upgrade to get the 2-tone option. Also note that on a Kenwood you cannot do 2-tone in a LTR bank either, on any of their radios.

Hope this all answers your questions.
