To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a fleet of TK-5320 and TK-5820 radios. I am wondering if it’s possible to enable some sort of a talk permit tone, or PTT sidetone, or clear alert tone (like you can on a Moto APX/XTL/XTS) similar to the PTT sidetone you get with FleetSync PTT ID on analog?

We occasionally have a few times where transmissions get cut off because users start talking before the radio trips the repeater.

Just tried adding the PTT Proceed tone to a 5820 with no luck.

Tried keying up on a P25 conventional channel.
Hmm, I'm an NXDN guy so I don't have a 5x20 radio to try it on. Does it work on an analog conventional channel?

I have FleetSync PTT Sidetone enabled on my conventional channels. So, no i guess it doesn't.

Or if it does, it's the same as fleetsync sidetone.

Add a conv channel without Fleetsync then, and see if it makes the sound. Curious too, what FW version are you running?

Just put a analog conventional channel into a zone with no fleetsync. And yes I got the PTT proceed tone (very similar to Moto TPT)

However when I switched the channel to P25, I got nothing.

Radio is on FW 2.12

Afaik that's a more recent FW so I would think it would work. Honestly, I have no idea now, maybe someone else with a TK5x20 series can help, figured I would try since I thought it would be straightforward lol.

I appreciate it.

Might have to reach out to my Kenwood dealer after the 1st of the year. It’s not super critical. But would definitely be nice. I honestly don’t even really care what it sounds like… Just a simple beep would be fine. Just something so our users know when it’s “safe” to talk.

I've only known it to work on P25 channels when you have the "SCM Encryption Module" enabled and talk permit tone checked on. The radio will of course say on the power up that no SCM is installed, but you will get a talk permit tone.

So I assume if I check that box, on power up the display shows “NO SCM” is the radio still usable? Does that warning go away?
