If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have programmed a new TK 5320 with two priority channels. When in scan the reception on all other channels is so choppy you cannot understand what they are saying. It is not simply a matter of staying on the priority channel too long - it is checking far too often. It breaks off of an active channel to check the priority channels at what appears to be 2 or 3 times per second. Most of my work is with Motorola radios so this could be an issue with other Kenwood models.

I've probably missed something in programming but every thing I've tried makes it worse. The only variables I've found seem to be to adjust how long it stays on the priority channels. One of them appears to set the time for how long the radio remains on the priority channel after the transmissions ends, to allow you to respond if you need to, and the other sets how long it stays on the channel in the absence of any transmission. This second one is often called "the hole" for the break it causes in the reception of active channels. I don't think the hole is too wide - the problem is how often the radio checks the priority channels.

Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need to adjust your "look back time" settings. This is the amount of time that will pass between each sampling of the priority channel. If the look back time is set to low, it'll really be intrusive. Setting it to something longer will probably address the issue you are having.
