• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

As some of you know, I already have a TK-830G in my Jeep for GMRS, and 440 ham use. I just bought a TK-630H-3 that I am going to use for 6 meter ham... (Thats 50-54 mhz for non hams)...

At any rate, I will be using my current 160 channel head as the remote head for both. I have the control cables, and other various items coming soon....

I will be adjusting the VCO, etc. for max TX power at 50-54 mhz. It is a very simple process. The 630H's TX power will drop off sharply out of band, so this adjustment is necessary.

I am guessing I will mount one drawer unit under each front seat. So far, that is the plan. However, with a 17 foot control cable, anything is possible.....

Any thoughts?

I did the "6M mod" to my TK-690H a while ago and it involved adding brass slugs to the VCO coils. Also had to manually hexedit the codeplug because the radio software doesn't allow entry of frequencies above 50 MHz. Not sure what is involved with the TK-630H but it can't be any worse!

I would suggest dialing back the RF output a little. Mine is set to about 85 watts and it doesnt run too hot.

I would also suggest joining the TK x30/x90 Series Yahoo Group. Lots of good resources there.

Actually, the x30s are WAY easier.... The program goes from 29-54 in "SP tune" mode, and no slugs on the VCO coil are required... Me being me, I will keep it at 110w....

I will check out the Yahoo groups....

Kenwood TK 630

I want to get a Kenwood TK 630 capable of operating on 29 Mhz, or lower. Actually, I want to go to 24 Mhz. I understand the 29 Mhz low0band will go there. How does Kenwood list their ranges. Some list A, B. C for the various ranges. Would I suppose that the TK 630H is in the high range of 40-50? Anyone know how difficualt would it be to take the Kenwood 630 to 24 Mhz. What model would that be, the 630L model? Thanks,
Joe

You are looking for a TK-630H-1. They go by 1, 2, and 3 series. However, I highly doubt it will do 24MHz....

Try a radio that's designed to tune there. Why 25 mhz.?

There are about 18 land-mobile frequencies which are not being used. No one makes equipment in that range anymore. Therefore, there is no one on any of those channels other than remote broadcast. That is a good day time frequency. You can talk all over in the day. This is a good band segment which has been abandoned. I was told that some hams have put the Kenwood on 24 Mhz. Thanks,
