To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So we have a tk 7180H mobile in our new rescue. Radio worked great now for some reason a lot of our (Motorola) radios are having trouble picking up the 7180 The local kenwood dealer said it might be our mic or the radio needs calibrated? any ideas?
How old is the radio? Do You have any other Kenwoods? If so just switch the mic. If it fixes the problem then you have a bad mic. Also, are you Narrow or Wide? If you're wide and the Kenwood is Narrow it'll be very hard to hear. Lastly, the radio itself might just need realigned back to factory specifications.

Yes, we have other kenwoods I'll give that a try. The radio was purchased this July. Also our channel is still wide but do have some channels that are narrow in the radio. By realigned you mean wipe it clean and reprogram the entire radio?
Sounds like problem solved.
Realigning the radio means to tune the frequency error back to zero, adjust deviation for both the wide and narrow channels, check that your receiver opens when it should (.2uV), that it reaches full quieting where it should (.3uV), checking and adjusting power output, etc. It's all done with a service monitor, a Watt meter, and a computer to tune the radio.
