• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So... I have a fleet of Tk 760HG-1 mobiles which need to be narrow banded. I have the KPG 56D software (version4.22) as well as a KPG 46 USB cable. I am running on a WIN XP laptop.

Is it the wrong software?

I've looked through the forums and I see that there apparently used to be a process where you hold the SCAN button down and turn on the radio to get it into programming mode... that didn't work.

I've wiggled the cable... that didn't work.

I've cursed it like a stray dog in my garbage... that didn't work either.

Any help out there?

There are two models of the 760. The origanal 760 that uses DOS KPG 29 and the 760G that uses the KPG 56 in WIN.

I have both and have no problems with either one provided that you have the correct ver software for the correct ver radio.

And you need to use the KPG 4 cable that uses a 9 pin to RG connecter to the radio.

Check your com port setting to make sure you have the software talking to the cable on the correct port.

If the settings are correct, you should be able to read the radio, make your changes then reprogram without any problems.

There are no special "push this button" to get the radio into program mode.

You seem to have missed a crucial detail (as in many past posts which is why I've made sure and made it clear here)... this is a TK-760HG-1.

the HG-1 is the one I cannot seem to have show up under the model programming information.

Yes, 760's show up but NOT the HG-1.

ETilton - The KPG56D is the correct software. I use 4.22 as well. The 760G is the model you will see in the model drop down menu. The 760HG is just the high power version. I use Win7 but have used it on XP. The only difference between you and me is I have the 9 pin serial cable through a usb to serial adapter. My only suggestion would be to plug your cable in, check in device manager & verify it sees it and the driver is working correctly. I doubt your cable was assigned a com port higher than com20 which is the highest that the software provides for. Make sure when you open the KPG56 the correct com port is selected that matches what your computer assigned to it. What error message are you getting? No, there shouldn't be any special procedure to get into program mode. Hope this helps.

Agreed, select the HG model, I have 2 and have no issues with programming with the ver 4.22 I am using XP SP-2 and use a usb converter with my DB-9 cable, and have had no issues reading or writing the radio. There is no special 'program mode for the radio. Plug the cable in turn the radio on and click the button that has an arrow pointing to the computer. If the correct comport is selected the radio should automatically go in to program mode by the software when you click the read button.
