• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am hoping someone could help.
I have a TK-760 HG VHF Radio
When i power up the radio it does 1 of 3 things

1: powers up with " Prog 576" on display
2: Powers up with channels frozen and buttons un-responsive
3: Powers up with buttons working normal, able to scroll through channels , then locks up and either freezes or goes to " Prog 576"

( Note : I have checked to see if buttons are sticking, they are not , and cleaned contacts as well)

I am pretty sure that this may need a Firmware upgrade, or at least I want to give that a try
I have the KPG-56d software and cable but do not have a good copy of the firmware.
Question 1: can i download the firmware from another radio running the same version
Question 2: Is there anywhere I can get the latest version of firmware.
Questyion 3: Will the KPG-56d Software work for upgrading the firmware .

Thank You for any help you may be able to provide.

1. Read the radio, save to your computer somewhere with a unique name(I use 'original-download-XXX-XX-2014 the x's are month and day)

2. Create a new code plug using the new file button at the top of the screen and load into the radio with out entering any data.

3. If it goes in the display should read Unprog or something to that effect.

4. Build a code plug in the software using the new file button, with what ever channels you want and dump it in.

No point in trying to update the firmware if you do not know if it needs it.

Once you get about 5 or so posts, PM me your Email address, and I will look will get you to read and send me the code plug and I will take a look at it.

I own 2 of these radios and never had any issues with them at all. Or email me: kayn1n3 yahoo com. Fill in the (at) and (dot)

I tried what you suggested and cleared all with a new codeplug , then put in
5 new channels. Same symptoms happened, radio froze up after scrolling through the channels a few times.

I thought it was 3 posts(excluding tavern) to unlock PM. In that case how many posts does he need to be able to PM?

It "should" be 4 and he's there now.
