If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

You have 12 volts on both the red and yellow power wires? The yellow ignition sense should go to pin one of the white molex connector on either the radio chassis or the head.

If a remote mount, make sure the control cable is firmly seated on both ends. Later 790s the connector has a positive click when you push it on. Sure helps.

Other than that, most common is a blown internal fuse. A little surface mount guy, 1.8 amp.

where is the surface mount fuse at i am sure thats the problem

If you wired the radio with reverse polarity and it did not blow the buss fuse in the + lead then you are going to have to spend some $$ ! :(
There is a surface mount diode, but I suggest taking the radio to a tech to repair it.

Take the cover off the control board (the side with the DB-25 rear connector). It will be towards the front of the board just behind the white connector. Take a voltmeter to it. If it's good you'll have 12V on both sides. If it's blown, one side will be 0V.

In a pinch, you can cripple across it with a green pico fuse (like I've done in my personal radio).

There is another fuse on the board but that only protects the accessory connectors.

F-502 has 13V both sides? Then nothing at F-501. Let me grab a schematic and refresh myself. I'll get back to you.

Well DUH! F-501 will not have any power to it unless you put a solder blob on the SB jumper right next to it. But don't worry about it, it's only for the DB-25 accessory connector, shouldn't affect the ability of the radio to power up.

If you feel F-502 is good, there's only a couple of things to check.

The ignition sense jumpers R-504 and R-506. They are at the back of the board by wiring connector CN-506. If you have the yellow ignition lead, R-504 should be missing and R-506 in place. This would allow the ignition lead to control the radio power. Default from the factory R-504 is in and R-506 is missing. In this config, only the power switch controls the radio regardless if there is voltage on the yellow lead or not. If both R-504 and R-506 are missing, this is not allowed and the radio will not power up.

The only other thing I can think of to check is the PS line. Go back to F-502 and the connector next to it and you will see if a wire labeled "PS" (power switch). If you can get a voltmeter probe on that through the top of the connector, you will see a 12 volt pulse when you press the power switch. If the fuse is good and the jumpers correct and you see this 12 volt pulse, you're problem lies in the radio control board. If you cannot detect a 12 volt pulse there, then the control head needs to be looked at.

Beyond all this, you will need to have a tech with a schematic to troubleshoot where the problem is.
