• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Good morning/afternoon!

To introduce myself, my name is John, and a voulenteer firefighter for our small town department. I have recently obtained my EMT, and have been running med calls out of my pickup due to living quite a ways from the station.

I have had many a time I ran out and either forgot to bring or charge the handheld at times, hence why am writing currently. I plan on using a TK-8180 400-470mhz variant and install it in my personal vehicle. My question is mainly programming. As I am aware of the rules set in place from RadioReference, I know that requesting copies of programming software. So to clarify, I am ONLY inquiring on where to purchase a legit, legal copy of the programming software.

I have found a site "American Communication Systems" that sells a TK-8180 programming software, but I am not sure that it is a legit site. I am woundering if anyone has had experience with them?

To clarify, I am definetly a beginner with radios, only doing things like cbs, or programming a UV-5R. Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

(Edit: I do have permission from department administration, and have a list of our frequencies.)

That would be a good site.

You can find KPG89 on the internet if you Google it. I have downloaded software for older radios from internet and it worked well.

With the TK-8180, along with it's handheld family member the TK-3180 being out of production from Kenwood the software most likely will have to come from from internet source.

Do you have the cable?

If you have a TK-3180 and the cable for handhelds in the same band split you can use the same file to program both, but you need to edit the button selections with them having different button configuration.
