• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have this radio set so the OPT key triggers the user selectable tones, however, I have seen nothing in the manual about how to switch through the 16 different tones I have programmed in the radio. I have tried everthing I can think of. I push the OPT button, and the OPT icon comes on the screen, but I see no way to change the tones.... AGGH!

Any help is appreciated!

One More Thing....

Also, even though I have all channels set to ADD for scanning by default, it will not scan. When you push SCN, it just goes "boop", and will not go into scan mode. Also, it is set as "Off hook scan = yes"

X30's are a little esoteric. I'm doing this by memory so we'll see how it goes.

First scan. you have channels added in software? Ok, you need to have at least two channels and a group added to envoke scan. There are two triangles above the alpha display. The left one is group add and the right one is channel add. To add or delete channels from the radio, press and hold the scan button then press the A/D button. To add or delete groups, press and hold the scan button, then press the group up or down button. Off hook scan is good and make sure both triangles are in the display.

Now for OST. I thought when it was set correctly, when you press the OPT button, it would flash " CODE XX" (XX= 1 to 16) for a second then go back to the display with the "OPT" lit. To change the OST, you would press and hold the scan button (???) and then press OPT. "CODE XX" would stay in the display and you could spin the rotary knob to change. Pressing OPT a second time would bring you back to the channel display with OPT (OST) enabled.

Not sure if I'm all correct, but try those and see where you get. If there is still probs, I'll dig into it further.

Okay, as far as the scan is concerned, both of the triangles are in the display. I set all frequncies in all groups to ADD in the programming software.

I will try the OST thing tomorrow. When you push OPT, nothing happens except the OPT icon comes on. I will try the sequence you suggested, anyway...

Thanks!

Okay... If I hold the SCN button, and press OPT, the menu to switch tones comes up. Thank you for that! After work today, I will try to figure out the scanning issue.

Alright. So I have the OST figured out, and the add/delete channels for scanning figured out. The only thing that doesn't work is add/delete groups.

And now I have the scanning issue figured out. I had "OPT SIG" set to yes, assuming that meant "yes" to optional signalling. Apparently, it will not scan when set this way. I set them all to NO, and everything scans now. And, I can still change the signal tones manually.. I verified this with my scanner since it also decodes tones....
