To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi guys, recently purchased 2xTK-862's (UHF) and would like to reprogram them (obviously).

Fired up KPG-56D selected the model stated on the back of the rig UHF TK-862G (N)....
(In KPG56D is says TK-862G(N) E), Tried to read from radio and KPG-56D says that I have selected the wrong radio.

This happens with both radios, which both have been programmed previously by the same person as they tx/rx same chan/freq etc.

Tried 2.2 and 4.2 windows and dos different machines, using a serial cable, com1 is selected, I have now run out of ideas.

Any help appreciated,

Nick

You dont need to select anything other than read, the software will tell you which radio you are reading.

The software is telling me I have the wrong radio selected.
It reads the serial number off the radio but no channel information?

KPG56D Problem

Hello,

Have you tried to select a different model and then read the radio? When I open the KPG56D software it shows that there are 3 different 862 models. It's just a suggestions but maybe try reading the radio with each of the different model types and see if you get lucky.

Yes I have also tried this, I know the cable is working because it read the serial number from the radio, also it programs my TK-809 fine, and numerous handhelds.

Try this.....

I have ran in to several Kenwoods where I was not able to read the radio, but was able to write to it. Try selecting the model and put a few freq's and tones in and then write to it.
