• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Program you frequencies in the radio, for each frequency you want to decode 2 tone on, in the optional signalling box select "2-Tone-1", only change optional signalling from its default to 2-tone-X on the channels you want to decode 2 tone, your page out channels if you have multiple. Next go to edit and select 2-tone, next select 2-tone-1 tab and program your tone frequencies in A and B. leave all the settings default. After your write to the the radio, you should be able to decode your fire page, the radio should alert.

If you have any more questions, PM me.

I am trying to get my tk-280's to act like a pager as well. I have the page frequencies needed but not sure what order to put them in. The A-B feature is messing with me!

Here are the tones I got from my Motorola Minitor V pager:

Tone 1 Tone 2
766.5 553.6 (this is our EMS tone)
810.5 584.3 (this is our fire tone)
584.3 617.0 (this is the weather alert tone)

What I have set up is one channel for the EMS and Fire tones and one for just fire only tones. Both channels will have the weather tone as well. I am wondering if I am setting this up correctly with only using the last tone, or the "tone 2" from the pager above.

In the 2-tone section of the programming software for the decoder 1 call format I have selected A-B. The decoder 2 I have selected C. Down below I have the A tone as tone 2 from above...553.6 and the B tone as 584.3 with the C tone as the weather of 617.0

How do you close the frequency so you don't hear the open carrier? I programmed the radio with the settings above and when I key up on the frequency I still hear it. I must be doing something wrong....please help!!

Actually....I got it figured out how to mute the channel...

Under Optional Features for Signalling should be AND, not OR.

Still not sure about the numbers and what order to enter them.
