Well after years of using my Ham gear double duty for scanning I finally picked up a BCT15x last week...
Now for the antenna! I am strongly considering the DPD 118-1000 MHz Scanner LP antenna up at about 20ft(for now) with my diamond X50
The Wife likes listening to PS (I guess i do to) and i have a very new found thing for Milair and only have room for one antenna at this time and From the reviews i have read for a wide band antenna the DPD is a great choice. also considering the Scantenna (price is enticing) But I would rather buy once cry once if need be lol Any user input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The DPD log will of course get you some good gain more concentrated in one direction but if you are going for milair too I think I would consider a omni of some kind. A nice discone would be my first choice. DPD also makes some omni's that I have heard good things about called the omni X. If you want a nice discone that won't fall apart like many of the Ebay models take a look at Kreco Antennas, they make some very nice discones.

Yeah i was looking at the omniX at $100 less than the LP it looks good LOL..With the LP I was figuring since i live right on the pacific ocean here on the Monterey bay I could face the back end west and get good coverage from the front and sides. The OmniX is very tempting hell for less than the LP i could get it and Coax.....Hmmm Choices Choices Very new to MilAir we have some SAR activity out of Moffett Field and i see thier C130's out over the bay here.

Sucks but Need the wide band for sure wife likes the public safety stuff (She likes listening to her brother whom is a deputy in a neighboring county). Happy wife!

The 118-1000 LP is awesome.

I have the 118-1000 LP antenna and a scantenna. The scantenna for me picks up better than the 118-1000LP. I have the scantenna up about 35 feet with just rg6 cable hooked to a drop amp, and the 118-1000 up about 40 feet hooked up with LMR 400..The scantenna picks up better for me even in the directon the 118-1000 is pointed in The 118-1000 can not be beat in quality. It is top of the line quality that will last forever it just cant beat the reception of the scantenna for some reason..
