I would like to ask a question on this fourm about the Uniden Home patrol. I am thinking of buying a unit with the update. I need to hear both (For the Uniden Home patrol) and(Problems with the Home Patrol). I am a professional Scanner Listener and want to have one in my Communications Center.I would like to hear from all on this matter.Thank You.

I like the old school scanners, I guess I'll never change. I really love my plain jane BC9000XLT and pro2050. If I had the money I would get a 996T or a pro106.

Tim if you want one or are thinking about getting one that as you know is entirely up to you the user. And if worse comes to worse if it does not fit into your shack and or monitoring needs you can always sell it.About what others are saying about you being a Professional Scanner Listener i have no comment.Happy Holidays

I have the HP-1 with the extreme upgrade and it is amazing. Sentinel is very good. I like the extended alpha tags. I think i get 22 vs 16 chars. I would 100% get it.

I have had a HP1 since they were released. I do NOT have the upgraded firmware. I like it the way it is...after a lengthy time of almost constant use, I find nothing wrong with it.

Why anyone would pay close to $600 for a digital scanner when you can get one for $289.99 is beyond me. But it's your money :)

You don't have the free Upgrade firmware or the extra cost Extreme firmware? With the features that the free Upgrade brought (multiple Favorites, etc) I'm not sure why you would not have done that - as a matter of fact, I'm not sure if you can do a weekly database update on the original firmware... The weekly update format will be changing early 2012...so definitely will want to do those updates once we release them.

Who's paying $600 for a digital scanner?

Scanner Master prices from their web site:

GRE/Radio Shack
PSR-600 -- $370
PSR-800 -- $445
PRO-106 -- $330
PRO-197 -- $300

Uniden
HP-1 -- $490
BCD396XT -- $450
BCD996XT -- $450

The OP stated "with the update" which last I checked was $99. So total is "close to $600" after the update is purchased after buying the scanner itself.

I understand the argument between scanners, I just personally don't see why one would pay that much more. But to each is own and that's why I said "But it's your money".

A professional scannerist?

Probably either works for a board up company or Independent insurance adjuster.... Just sit there and wait for fires to come in and send adjusters out to sign clients... I bet 20% of the people who listen to the feeds here is for "work"
