That is the question?

With past scanners (Pro-97, BC796, etc) Ive always used the Control Channels only when programing sites, such as Davis County (all sites one bank in scanner). Now with rebanded sites Ive been under the impression that you could not do that, although Ive read others have done it with their GSR scanners. So this with my BCD396 I tried placing Control Channels only bunched together (one bank, sites all together) in one of my 396 scanners, the other I kept the sites separated (each site with its own CC)

After monitoring both scanners for about 6 hours, the one with CC only bunched together receives nothing but scans various CC (so I know its getting them). The one with separated sites (each site with its own CC's) works just great and picks up as expected.

So, just wondering if anyone else knows this or has any suggestions?

One of the reasons I've brought this up is because I have the state programmed as well as all bordering states to Utah and I'm using 92% of my space which doesn't leave much room for additional freqs down the road.

Thanks!

I am using CC's only on my Pro-96 and have no problems at all. I have mine set up to recieve all towers in that county all unlocked, together and scanning. I don't know about the unidens, I am not a big fan of Uniden so I will let someone else who uses them tell you about that. As far as the Pro-96 and Pro-2096's go I ONLY run CC's. Hope that helps.

FYI on what I have seen on the Ut. County Simo after Rebanding.

Pro97, BC246, BC15, BC330t w/CC or without.. No difference.
will only monitor 4 out of 11 channels.
I tooks like the low LCN# channels are the same but above about 200ish they are different.

Now with the same scanners on West Mtn site.
I can receive 6 out of 7 voice channels.
Only two LCN above the 200 mark and one is the CC.

Pro97 is now just going to be non-trunking VHF/UHF stuff.
Since most of traffic still multicasting on VHF/UHF.

****************
Muticast- Mutiple sites transmitting the same traffic on different frequencies.
ex. UCAN->VHF or VHF->UCAN
Simucast- Multiple sites tranasmitting traffic on the same frequencies over a wide area.
ex. UCAN Simo's

I have read the posts on this subject, and it still seems unclear.
These radios have multiple settings, and unless we know all of the settings
that a particular member used, we really won't be able to understand
what works and what doesn't.
Were all of the trunking tables complete and correct?
For the GRE: They will respond differently in
Multi-site off, Multi-site stationary, & Multi-site roam.

With the Pro95, I program in: (DA=DAvis)
DA Simul, Francis Pk, DA Simul, DA Landfill, Da Simul, Mt Ogden.
With each scan, the Pro95 remembers to use the same CC as the last scan.
If the scanner loses the CC, such as when under an overpass,
It looks for the next CC in sequence, so it will jump to an IR site.

I don't know how the PSR500 will act, but I know this:
If I put CCs together as a single TSYS, I can not label the sites separately.
I also can't lock out any of the CCs
I won't know if I am locked onto the Simul site or an IR site.
Last week, Davis deputies were conducting speed enforcement
using LIDAR on Hwy 89. They were on Event 2.
The scanner would only receive them when it was on the
DA Simul site, so not all sites within an area carry the same traffic.

I am looking toward programming the counties this way:
Scanlist A - The Simul site
Scanlist B - All the local IR sites.

Tooele County: All the CCs as a site.
As I travel from east to west, one site is lost,
and another is picked up.

Summit & Wasatch counties:
One site Simul, One site I-80 corridor, One site Daniels Cnyn.
To save memory, program only TGRPs likely to be along I-80 or Daniels.
Example, I won't be expecting Park City PD in those areas.

Along the Wasatch Front, I would program in UHP, Regionals,
Sheriff Dispatch, and Fire Dispatch on the IR sites

Most of us already understand this part, but some may not, so....
Certain TGRPs I never program:
Service Channels - they tie up air time with uninteresting chatter.
Gold Cross Ambulance - also ties up a lot of air time.
Training Channels
UCAN Technician channels

I don't usually program: Transit Cops, College cops, Granite School Cops.
Fire Dept C2C so far, has only been used for training. Cut it.
SLC Vice cops tie up a lot of air time when they are active.
Court Security (Bailiff) channels
Department of Corrections
Jail channels
Animal Services
UDOT Channels

Please read my posts on the thread by camelcacher:
Is this normal for a gre 500?

He was having problems similar to yours.
We got him to post his p500 file so we could analyze it.
There were lots of errors, and lots of CCs.

I pared things down and eliminated all but one CC
for SL County and one CC for SL City.

You can download the file 11119.zip and try it
in your scanner to see what you think.
I personally didn't like having the LED on,
but that is how he originally had it, so I didn't change it.

I simply created a SL County TSYS with a single CC
and a scan list of known good TGRPs without the junk ones.
