Today the City of Warwick added a 5th Rescue Company to the Warwick Fire Department. It is funded with a grant written by members of this Local. With our ever-increasing call volume, it couldn’t have come too soon. R5 went into service at 8:00 am. It was dispatched on its first run at 8:26 am and was then diverted to a critical call that it was closest to one minute later at 8:27 am. Like all of our Rescues, today and every day, it’s been busy since. Rescue 5 is quartered at Station 9 on Commonwealth Ave.
I believe there is a reserve Rescue 18 in Providence. Providence does rely on mutual aid for rescue runs, but so do other cities & towns. East Providence frequently has to depend on Seekonk & Barrington for runs. Also Warren, Pawtucket & Providence. Central Falls can often be heard calling Lincoln & Cumberland for aid. I occasionally hear North Smithfield rescues responding to Providence for calls.
You guys should talk to Fall River about grant funding to staff front line units. Use the money while you have it, but plan for other resources when it dries up.
Providence relies on the MOST mutual of any other city or town in RI. They habitually call for the most mutual aid during lunch, dinner and shift change......NOBODY abuses the mutual aid agreements more than Providence...good luck getting any from them on a regular basis.....
