Not in any hurry to buy anything just yet. Yes, I know this will slow the economic recovery, but I am interested.

Have been reading up on scanning lately and have come up with 2 that fit. I know a bit (small bit) on the subject, I'm a licensed amateur. By no means an expert.

One is available today and its the Pro-95. Its been available for a few years now. Will probably go on sale in the $150 range. Who knows maybe less.

One will become available in a few months, the BC246T. No pricing available yet, but I'm thinking not too far +/- from the 95.

In general, is it wise to buy version 1 of a scanner such as the 246 or do experienced people here waited a bit for v2 or a f/w update, etc.

Not knowing things like, Uniden's are pretty good on day one or wait a bit before getting the (insert variable here), I need some guidance.

TIA,

Dave...

You'll be fine with a day-1 Uniden, however the price is more likely to be in the $250 range.

Hummm. If a 246 is destined to be $100 > a Pro-95, I'd need to ponder the value, especially if the specs of the 2 radios are *similar*, not identical but similar.

Thanks for the update.

I have a Pro-95, but instead of getting a -92, I'd like to get the 246 this fall: I'm hoping this will be better than the BCT-8, but one way or another I'd like to receive LTR because of my state's DOT channels. Will my 95 be unnecessary when I get a BC246T, or will I get more freqs (because of the Don Starr software) than with the 246?
