I see that Tompkins county has started using their "new" 800 system but I'm wondering how much or how often. I still hear quite a bit of activity on the high band and 400 system. Can anyone shed some light on the situation there? Thank you

Tompkins Trunked System Activity

I actually live in southern Broome County, and am able to receive the Tompkins 800mhz digital trunked system reasonably well on a 996XT with a rooftop antenna. I have listened to the system occasionally mainly to check out the capabilities of the scanner, but I have found the system very active with what sounds like all public safety and fire/ems activity of the county. I do know the med talkgroups are still simulcast on the 460 mhz med channel, but I never could receive the fire channels here.

I attached a crude text file of about 8 hours of a log from ARC-XT virtual control just to give you an idea of some of today's active talk groups.

Thanks Mark

Much appreciated. Sorry for the delay in replying. Must be my subscription to thread didn't work or expired or something.

Anywho, I don't live in Tompkins and I don't have/need trunking yet, but I receive the med/fire dispatch on the 400 system just fine. I haven't been able to hear much activity on the high band any longer but they do still appear to be using it. I was just wondering if that was a common occurrance or if they are basically trying out the 800 and determining if they should go full trunk.

You are hearing activity on the high band and 400 as they've 'patched' over so users without 800 radios can communicate on the old 'Med 10'. (ie: Mercy Flight, Out of county EMS, etc.) The Fire and EMS paging is on 460.275
Tompkins is 'full trunk' (as you put it :)
