I'm hearing Toms River FD transmissions extremely loud and clear here in Hillside on their frequency of 154.145. Is this ducting??

There was a band opening this morning on vhf-hi & uhf but i am not sure it was ducting.

Yesterday morn there was also a real strong band opening and signals from all over the
tri state area were coming in much stronger than normal.

To borrow a lyric from the Hollys, it's the time of the season for ducting, and along the East Coast it's legendary.

they have a killer signal to begin with. it's not unusual for me to pick them up while portable. i'm in central monmouth county. the other night, camden county 154.430 was booming in,on a minitor pager.

I plugged the frequency in last week in hopes of picking up Franklin Twsp.(Somerset) FD TRS simulcast. This morning the Toms River signal came in louder than the local FD. Woke me right out of my usual morning stupor, without the need for a cup of joe.
