I have a radioshack pro-95 i've begun experimenting with.
Perhaps this is not specific to my model: I can't figure out how to program a tone frequency. I want to listen to a Cab company's frequency that has 1 transmit and one tone frequency.
Some things I am unsure of:
When I program the tone correctly, should i be able to reduce/elimate my squelch knob?
Is the tone going to be programmed into a separate channel, and if so how do I associate it with the transmission channel?

I am very new to radio, so all obvious info explained would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

To expand, the only thing programming a tone into a scanner does for you is keep you from hearing transmitters on that frequency that use different (or no) tones. If you don't (or can't) program a tone, you'll hear all transmissions on that frequency.

Thanks for expanding, I was in a hurry and couldn't give a more through answer.
