Good morning, everyone!

I have a question about tone remote control, particularly as it applies to Plattsmouth PD and Nebraska City PD.

I'm familiar with the standard configuration whereby 2175/1950 provides the transmitter "key-up" command, a constant "low-level" 2175 keeps the transmitter keyed during the voice transmission, and removal of the 2175 allows the transmitter to drop.

However, from what I can hear, both Plattsmouth and Nebraska City are using what sounds like a "key-up" sequence to drop the transmitter, as well.

Come to think of it, I think the UPRR is using this same format with their radios on the Falls City Sub (Omaha to KC via Plattsmouth and Murray), which operate on 160.410.

To me, using an additional tone sequence for the de-key command is much more "positive" than just removing the LLGT.

ObiJohn / SDOG - can either of you elaborate on this format?

Thanks, and 73's

Tone remote

I know Plattsmouth is not using a a tone remote. They will be using Microwave from the LEC to the Tower site at KOTD and then, if my memory serves me correctly, it will then go from KOTD to KPTM and Queen Hill Rd. All equipment on KOTD will be controlled by MW.

I'll pm off line with more info.

Howdy, SDOG and all!

Ah ha! I should've been more clear about which channel I was referring to - sorry! I know that the 800MHz. system will be via uWave.

I'm hearing what I referred to in the first message on 155.4900.

It's a "chirp" at the end of every transmission from the Base - not the mobiles! Like I said, it really reminds me of the 2175/1950 key-up sequence that keys-up the transmitter initially.

Tone remote

Now I am tracking with ya. I don't know that much about how the system at the LEC is set up.

Hi geo, et al.

I believe what you are hearing is caused by the remote adapter that is the interface between the radio and the dispatch console.

Whether that "chirp" is engineered in or not, I can't tell you. I just know that the last time the Plattsmouth Police base radio got zapped by lightning, the radio shop replaced the radio (and I guess the remote adapter).

Yes, I too find it annoying.

I haven't listened to NE City PD for awhile. I'll program it in the radio in my car and check it out.

Speaking of the radio in my car, I am trying real hard to find an Astro Spectra so I can talk to Neal and the Sarpy guys on the P25 machine. My main issue with the Spectra radio is that I have no way to program it.

If you know of someone that can, I would sure like to talk to them.

N_JAY asked if it might be digital control? Geeze, I haven't heard DRC for a long time! I think that probably the few people that still use that are in the paging business.
Anyway, the only people I know that used it were doing wide area paging.

And SDOG- If I had to guess, I would say that when the uwave is up, that the individual sites will be keyed by Tone remote control (TRC). It's a convenient way to key remote bases over any voice grade circuit.

Regards, Obijohn.

I have heard Nebraska City PD and to me it sounds like a courtesy tone like some ham repeater do.

I don't know about Plattsmouth noise but I have heard the noise when I listen.

Yea! I forgot. 'JJK, you are exactly spot on. K0TIK built that repeater out of GE exec. stuff, and that "beep" is his trademark. Listen to his Hammy stuff.

By the way-That fire engine looks like one of Bellevues'. Are you affiliated with Bellevue Steven? I'll bet I could get you to program a ASTRO for me. PLEASE?

Howdy, ObiJohn and all!

You're probably right about the remote adapter!

What I am hearing isn't a "courtesy tone", like that of NC PD's repeater! That "boop" is definitely 'TIK's trademark!

It's more like the tone remote adapter isn't filtering the tone remote tones out of the on-air signal!

My hypothesis was that Motorola came up with an "updated" Tone Remote format where they didn't rely upon the LLGT to keep the transmitter keyed. Rather, they use the normal 2175/1950 key-up and then use a similar, but different sequence to de-key. It would be a more positive arrangement, in that it takes a definite command to de-key, rather than the simple loss of LLGT.

However, it's definitely not DRC - you're right about DRC only being used by paging companies, where the control of MANY transmitters is a must.

I don't have software to program the Astro Spectra, but I do own my own, legally-licensed software that will program XTS3000 and Astro Saber portable radios! If you need an XTS3000 or Astro Saber programmed, I can definitely do that!

I already have my XTS3000 setup for EMU's P25 machine! Just waiting to hear that it's on the air!

Thanks, guys, and 73's!

Thanks for the offer Geo. I have a problem with portables, and I refuse to buy any more of them. It seems that "Murphy" resides at my residence, therefore, all of my portable batteries seem to die at about the same time. At last count, I have 18 portables. 17 of them are without good batteries.

I still have 3 perfectly functional HT-220's

Believe me when I say I miss them. But, there is no way that I can use them all simultaneously. Not to mention that my pants would end up around my ankles if I tried to use more than one at a time! HAhahaha!.

P.S. You know, you could stop by and say hi when you are next door.
