• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

These are CTCSS/DCS tones. You don't need to enter them if you don't want to. If your scanner has the option to do so, you can enter them into the radio to prevent interference from other agencies operating on the same frequency. They let you listen to only the agency you want, and blocks out any other agency on the same frequency. See your manual to see it your scanner supports CTCSS/DCS codes.

If you're using a BCT 8 it doesn't matter because the scanner doesn't have tone capabilities.

Yes I'm using a BCT8, I guess I don't have to worry about it then. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, are there any Uniden scanners that support tones?

I'm not very familar with the Uniden models, but know for a fact the BCD396T, 996T, and BCT15 support tones.
