Is there a way to determine what type and the number of the tone a particular frequency is using other than being close enough to pick it up on a scanner?

Yes. Look up the frequency and area in the database to find the tones in use.

Thanks. I had obtained some of what i was looking for via the database prior to posting my inquiry, but there are still some that are not there. I'll just have to use the scanner the next time i'm in listening range of the ones i'm looking for.
