Anyone know where to find the new engine list ? The engines use new numbers!
The WildWeb site for the Phoenix Interagency Fire Center shows the engines, but it no longer shows a location where the engine is quartered.
A couple of years ago the Forest Service ordered that each engine number would start with the Type # of the engine. The new numbers are not going to be painted on each engine, but on replacement engines. For example, Engine 22, a Type II engine will become E322 when it is replaced. Engine 34, a Type VI will become Engine 634 when it is replaced.
The Forest Service in Arizona decided to number engines in a different manner. Interestingly, they did not make the number system mandatory in New Mexico. The Southwestern Region (R3) includes both Arizona and New Mexico. The new Arizona designator system starts with the number of the National Forest in the region, followed by the Ranger District number with the last number referring to the individual engine on the Ranger District. Here are the National Forest numbers in R3:
01 Apache-Sitgreaves
02 Carson
03 Cibola
04 Coconino
05 Coronado
06 Gila
07 Kaibab
08 Lincoln
09 Prescott
10 Sante Fe
11 *
12 Tonto
National Forests in Arizona are shown in
bold.
* This is the former number of the Sitgreaves National Forest. It was combined w/ the Arizona portion of the Apache in 1972 to become the "Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest." The New Mexico portion of the Apache NF was given to the Gila NF for administration.

The WildCad no longer lists the station or district of the personnel and apparatus so I can't break it down by fire station. That and a possibility remains that a couple of the district numbers might not be correct.
