Too far?

Hi all. Will I be able to hear the San Francisco city PD/FD system from San Jose, or is that too far? I'll be staying on the ninth or tenth floor at a hotel in SJ.

Highly unlikely. The SF trunk system radiation pattern is highly directional to the east and west with almost nothing to the north and south. I can't get their system and I'm 40 miles north using a dipole on a 40 foot mast.

In my experience, nope. I have rarely picked up SF TRS while in San Jose, and in fact, you can have trouble hearing it clearly in South San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Half Moon Bay at times (I was using a Pro-96 with Radio Shack antenna....can't remember the name of the antenna, but it wasn't the duck. it is an extendable metal antenna)
