Ever seen those "deals", you know something so cheap that you sometimes want to play gamble? Well, << HERE >> is one some of you MIGHT want to try.

Signing up as a new user could take an addition $3.00 off of that price. So if you've not tried SDR yet, want to take a gamble, and wait a few weeks for it to arrive. Roll the dice.

That is a dongle with FC0012 tuner.
This tuner is much worse than the R820T2 and receives only up to 948 MHz.
Don't buy.

Thanks for the input. I suspected as much, after all you only get what you pay for.
Yes, and if someone wants to start with SDR, the new hobby should be fun somehow.

So a good start could be the RTL-SDR dongle with R820T2 Tuner:

If you want to spend a little more money:

If you later want to receive HF, you can expand your equipment further.

I purchased and played around with a number of USB dongles. I think I have one of those in my pile as well. The dongles do offer a lot of latitude in monitoring and other projects. However, I don't bother with the cheap ones anymore. Never did understand why they sell them with remotes and advertise them as TV receivers. They are even close to being suitable for that application.
