I aced the Technician Class exam 35 out of 35 right, on the General exam I got 34 out of 35 right ! :D

.....as very happy as I am with those scores, it still irks me just a little not knowing what was the one question was that I got wrong on the General exam

......now to study for the Amateur Extra exam, hope to take that exam by at least about 2 months from now if not sooner.

@GKLdiy88, excellent, my friend. You’ll do real good on the Amateur Extra exam based on your class average so far. Welcome to the Amateur Radio community where the opportunities are practically endless. Aside from passing that final test for Amateur Extra, do you have any other near term goals that you want to undertake with respect to ham radio; e.g., get on DMR, talk to the International SpaceStation (ISS), etc.? 73, Dave K4EET

Thanks !!!!

Well, after I made up my mind to get a ham license I got so focused on studying I hadn't taken much time to research in depth all the various aspects of all what you can do on ham, just being able to talk far distances was enough to get me started  now that I passed the General (and later the Extra) I can start taking some time researching all the other stuff, but I likely might still find a good bit of my free time being busy studying for the Extra exam, then after the Extra exam I'll really be able to use more of my free time for researching all that

Let us know your call when you get it! Congratulations!

Thanks !

My callsign will likely be temporary at first since I plan on applying for a vanity call sign after getting my initial callsign, then later on I'm guessing it will change again after I pass the Extra exam, then I guess I'll have to apply for a new vanity callsign in the Extra format  (you can tell I am brand new at all this )

Passed my General this morning. Had major concerns about passing but saw the graded test as they were doing other paperwork. Only missed 2 questions. Very happy with that.

Congrats !!!! just missing only 2 is great !!!!

I didn't realize it until I got to the testing place this morning but they had individual tablets for us to take our exams on, I thought it might be on paper and had brought 2 pencils

I'm glad they had the tablets, made the exam have the same feel as when I did the practice exams online.

'Tablets'? You guys are making me feel old! lol I took mine on paper with the fill-in blocks and a big #1 pencil to check the
blocks with. Back then you had to be able to copy Morse at 20 WPM to pass Extra and our VE used a Webcor reel-to-reel
recorder to play the code exam on. Study the material and take your time doing it... you'll have that Extra ticket before
you know it.

If you've been playing with GPS-controlled scanners, you may want to check out APRS as a ham... one of many facets in the
hobby. Good luck on the exams!

 hey, I remember the reel-to-reel recorders back in the 60's and thinking it was so neat when cassette tapes were invented

I am glad they used tablets so it felt the same as the online practice exams.

I am new to ham stuff in general and just did a quick search on APRS and it does look interesting, here are 2 web sites I found to learn more as I have time - APRS: Automatic Packet Reporting System and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Packet_Reporting_System

As far as taking the Extra exam I will try to study enough to consistantly get in the 90's on the online practice exams before taking the actual exam, the only thing is that the next (reasonably close) in-person exam date is almost 2 months away so even if I feel ready to take the exam in 3 or 4 weeks or less I'll still have to wait almost 2 months. I have thought about the remote sessions they have using video conferencing but not sure how easy or reliable it is to test that way.

Congrats on getting your license. I agree with 6079smithw on feeling old.

After getting my Novice in May 1975 by passing a test given by a local amateur, thereafter I had to take tests at an FCC office. Philadelphia and New York City were the closest; I went to the former. Had to copy code, checked for accuracy by the FCC Examiner, send code and only then could I take the pencil-and-paper written exam. No fooling around; it was serious business. No instant licenses; you had to wait weeks before the paper license arrived in the mail. When I was eligible to apply for my 1x2 call, the wait was even worse. I filed for it March 1977; it was issued in August.

Wow, guess I need to be very thankful that I should get my callsign within a few days of taking the exams :D

I read where many people still enjoy using morse code, but I wonder how many of those who were required to learn it to get a license bothered to keep using it after getting their license ?

Even though it's no longer required, I likely might try to learn code later on just for fun.
