If all you had was a 30-channel scanner that you could program only one time, and you traveled the country on a routine basis, which 30 frequencies would you program into it and why?

Limitations:
  • * No broadcast channels (AM/FM/TV)
    * No "standard" service channels (CB, FRS, dot frequencies, etc)
    * "Nationwide" relavence
    * Good chance of hearing something interesting
    * Buying a better scanner not an option :wink:
No, not thinking of building it, but it could become a feature someday if a spark is generated.

I'll add 154.2800 to this list - commonly used as a fire department mutual aid channel just about everywhere I've ever visited..

Along the same lines, you can't go wrong with 121.5 - that's the national emergency channel for aircraft.

Also Med1 to Med8 would be good - hospital/ambulance comm's:
463.0000 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.0250 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.0500 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.0750 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.1000 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.1250 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.1500 Medical radio/Hospital patches
463.1750 Medical radio/Hospital patches

That's about it. With everything going digital and trunked, you're gonna be hard pressed to find much of interest that you can put in 30 channels that's used on a nationwide basis, other than some of the above and the weather freqs. Kind of an oddball feature if you ask me...
