1) Power fails to primary TRS tower in Topeka- no big deal, automatically start the backup generator.
2) Backup generator fails, go to battery backup and Failsoft-
3) Nobody apparently was notified they were on batteries- opps the batteries ran out!
4) No TRS!
It would have been funny to listen to if it wasn't so tragic! Apparently no one had planned for this set of circumstances! (If they did have a plan they didn't share it with the dispatchers or the guy on the street!)
Anyway- they fell back on the National mutual aid (conventional) 800 freqs, the repeater from the mobile communications van, the courthouse repeater and KHP's Lawrence and Eskridge towers. It was only out for an hour or so- but the calls kept rolling in!
