Fyi for those of you in Toronto TPS are using 71-TPS-1 Temporary Use 1 for their escort comms. Haven't heard anything on the UHF's provided, but I'm fairly far away.

was just listening to 73-TPS-3 and the dispatcher just advised that 71, 72, 73 are all patched together for the night so you should be able to listen to any.

torch bearers

the 'torch bearers', the guys in the gray suites that run with the torch are RCMP. They are using xts5000 radios, unsure if it was 700 or UHF comms, they are encrypted though (says one of them).

Little late to post this but Torch related comm's were on 6732 (talkgroup descriptor is still unconfirmed for the York County trunk system) while it made it's way up to Newmarket.

I'm sure I caught 6736 (divides by 16) briefly a couple of times. But all the York action was on Search & Rescue. Kinda neat watching cp24 and listening to YRP.

Halton Burlington used their normal patches but a good deal of them went to Special events 3 on the Halton System, I heard some activity on the secuity channel listed here clear as a bell as we speak 425.575 here as the torch goes thru western Burlington into Hamilton.

ALSO I heard the squelch break on the logistics frequency 420.4125

Been listening to the procession make it's way thru the St. Thomas area today. General comms have been on TAC02 (as well as local PD in St. Thomas). Unfortunately they are too far away for me to check for RCMP UHF stuff.

Should be interesting as they get to the Muncey/Oneida/Chippewa reserves this afternoon. According to A News last night quite a few protests were being anticipated.

Yes you are correct, that talkgroup was being used as well. But just a friendly rule of thumb. When talkgroups like that are being used in the clear it's usually good practice to not talk about it in an open forum. It's not a rule by any means but usually a good idea.

Hello.

I am just wondering if anyone can help me out here.

I have been looking at the torch relay map and see that it will be coming to my neck of the woods here in Northern Ontario like to Iroquois Falls and then Timmins and eventually Wawa. And just wondering if anyone might be able to give me an idea as to what freq's and channels everyone might be using.

Like would the RCMP be following them all the way and if so. What channels might they be using. Because for Iroquois Falls, Timmins and Wawa, there is no system up here for them to use, like they won't be able to use their main channels like they would down in Ottawa and Toronto and everywhere else down south. So just wondering if they would have back up SIM channels to use in this case or what kind of channels they would use when and if they do talk.

Also for the OPP. From what I have read in this post. They will probably use a TAC Channel. And would they probably use any other TALKGROUPS. Just wondering so it will give me and my friend a heads up as to what TALKGROUPS we can maybe expect to see used when it comes up our way. And also would they use other UHF channels as well other than their main VR01 portable channel.

And if there is any other channels and freq's I should know about that they might use when they come up this way that will be good and worth while to listen to.

Just wondering so it will give us a heads up as to what to have in our scanners the day it comes. If anyone can give me some ideas. That is all I am looking for.

So I will be waiting for any replies to my reply. Thanks.

Coolguy.

Karlo: The frequencies listed in post #1 were used when they passed thru my town.
420.4125 PL136.5 Analog/Clear - Logistics
425.5750 P25/DES-OFB - Security (KF's or forgetful switch operators present

In my region (Halton) they used a special events talkgroup, In Hamilton they used PTac5, I think that talkgroup is used during special events (like a TigerCats game). The OPP were active on their usual Burlington/Niagara patch.

I do not know who does your policing in your listening area, if it is the OPP perhaps they will use a Tac channel or whatever the regular talkgroup is up 'there.'

I heard plenty of noise on the encrypted frequency listed and some chatter on the analog frequency but it was hard to hear.

Pretty boring if you ask me, it might be more fun to see it than scan it.

It was over in a flash when they came thru here. Was nice to say I saw it but it really wasn't that impressive in my opinion. I didn't hear any chatter on 420.4125 but did have lots of encrypted traffic on 425.5750. As mentioned the general OPP chatter was on 1TAC02 (which was useful as they kept updating where the convoy was and if they were on schedule or not).

WRPD are using Special Events 2 on the Waterloo Edacs as the Torch makes its way through Cambridge enroute to Kitchener.

I didn't bother checking the UHF Frequency since I the MRC Puslinch Passport Home or Collect channel is on the same frequency and comes in here rather well as I am LOS to the site.

In Timmins, Ontario Provincial Police was using CISO F1, RCMP (Victorian Security) was using 425.575, and all departments had access to the EMO channel. - of course the extra security because Shania Twain was in town to run the final leg of the run here :)
