I have been listening to a tornado drill this morning involving Williamsburg/James City County School System. They are using TG 1131...well sort of......

The JCPD is coordinating the "roll call" of schools. However, the problem is that the schools are using radios that they are obviously not familiar with using. Lafayette High School and James Blair Middle School (located in James City County) are inadvertently on TG 1242 (York County's Emergency Channel) and keep pushing the "emergency button". The York County dispatcher can't get them off the channel.

At the same time, James City Police are wondering what they can't contact Lafayette High School and James Blair on TG 1131.

The schools are using 10xxx series radios.

York County is getting very annoyed with whoever is using the radio at Lafayette High School. The radio keeps sending the emergency beacon on TG 1242...with no one talking.

Sounds like York County schools are doing the tornado drills today. Just heard a unit enroute to York High School for a "tornado drill".

Edit:
Not only York High School, but several others as well. One interesting thing I am hearing. YCFD is simulcasting on 154.400 (their old channel) as well as their dispatch talk group on the trunked system. Both sides of the transmission.

Edit 2:
I guess this is a statewide drill for all schools. My NOAA weather radio just kicked in with a notice the statewide tornado drill had begun.
