I'm well aware of Toronto EMS services having monitored them now for 30+ years.
Periodically I monitor them from my home in Hamilton.

I've noticed that my RID tagging is pretty accurate for the last 2 numbers but honestly much of the data has the stations and zones wrong.
For instance, RID 29011, I had it down as a SE car using 41 station but today it's using a 20 station callsign thus NE.

So I'm assuming that the ambulances get moved around to call parts of the city. That let's say, 18 station doesn't have exclusive units, a unit could be there for a time then be moved to SW.

I'm aware that units often go to calls in different zones for various reasons but it's not in stone that a unit always calls, in this case alone?

Again I don't monitor this all the time. I'm focusing on Toronto Fire when PSRN shutdown.
Someone with understanding of this, please respond.

That is very interesting, Eric. What I've heard is that 4xxx series are 900 series VID's (Vehicle Identification numbers) or hard ID's. Whatever you want to call it. That is 100% for sure.

Maybe:
3xxx is 800 series
2xxx 700 series
1xxx 600 series etc?

It is just speculation on my part for the rest of them, but I think I am onto something.

From a previous post...

On the vehicles:
8xx = ALS
9xx = BLS

On the radio:
2384 = BLS 984 out of 23 station
ALS add 40 to station number, so 6384 = ALS 884 out of 23 station

The 8xx and 9xx being ALS and BLS doesn't hold true anymore. There are also 4xx and 5xx units. Previously, 5xx units were District 5 (Special Operations) but that isn't necessarily the case anymore.

Mike:

Nice to see you, it's been ages.
The post here is something I've asked many years ago and I remember you answered with this.

I understand the concept, what I'm asking is:

Let's say ambulance 984 is the unit tied to station 23 or does it move and change it's base?

Last year I did alot of monitoring and tagging RIDS. Recently I came back and noticed that a lot of the units that for example operating out of 19 station thus 1984 or 5984, were now operating out of SW stations and were for example out of 33 station 3384 or 7384

And EMS units that I tagged operating out of NE station 21, 2184 or 6184 are now operating out of NW stations.

Is it worth tagging them or since the actual unit will operate out of a different quadrant, NE for months or whatever then SW?

It's been awhile for sure!

From the best I can tell, they try and keep the vehicles at least in the same quadrant. But, they can move them around as needs dictate.

The actual fleet number won't change, but the station isn't set in stone.

Somewhat on topic, but been hearing what sounds like TEMS getting their new FleetNet radios installed. Radio shop is checking in using the truck's 3 digit number. In the 422xx-425xx range on the Toronto CACC channel.
