I've noticed on RadioReference that it lists 16 Dispatch T/G's for the Toronto Fire Service, can anyone tell me how they are used? when i've been in Toronto, I've only seen Dispatch 1 (22416) & Dispatch 2 (22448) used......

Thanks,
Kirk

The way it works is like this:

They use dispatch 1 primary, if 1 is in use then 2 will be used concurrently, if 1 and 2 are in use then 3 will be used and so on and so on.. if all should be in use the order will reverse and the last group will act as the first... i could be wrong but I had a friend from TFS explain it to me in not so many words.

we're talking about the "DISPATCH Channels 1-16" right? not the "TAC Channels 1-6" for each division command...right?

Correct.

And if a truck is on the air at the time of a call, the dispatcher will give out the call on the appropriate OPS channel. So if P143 (North Command) is out of the station when they get a call, the dispatcher would dispatch them on North Ops.

Dispatch 16 is used as a "stand by" channel. Every Fire Station parks a radio on this TG. I have it programmed as "Talkback 16" as stations often use it to talk to Toronto Fire.

WZ1 already explained it to you.

If Dispatch 1 is in use, then Dispatch 2 will be used. If Dispatch 1 and 2 are in use, then Dispatch 3 will be used and so on and so forth.

If they have 16 calls to simultaneously dispatch, then you will see all 16 in use.

Also, when they do training scenarios, they don't always use the Training TGs. I've heard them use Tac 6 or even the Strategic channels. I'ts makes ya listen intensely when they find firefighter Johnson unconcious.

I have heard dispatching on Ch16 when the others have not been in use.

There is a phone on the wall in each of the fire halls that goes back to dispatch on channel 16 as to not interupt a dispatch should there be something being dispatched when the fire hall picks up the phone.

I have also heard this. Two different dispatches go out to 2 different stations for 2 different things. The first dispatch goes out to say 325, and then literally right after to say 232 by the same dispatcher. I actually think it was the English lady who dispatched both. Milliseconds apart.

They were probably using the Multiselect feature, there is sometimes a slight delay on one of the channels.

With Multiselect you can stack all the channels you wish to transmit on and the same message will go across all your selected channels, again sometimes with a very slight delay.
