Hello this is Coolguy. I will be making a trip to Toronto on Fri and staying until Monday. On this site I looked for some good freq's to use and I found a list of Toronto Police ServiceToronto PS

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=738

I have a RadioShack Pro-2045 Scanner. So I was wondering how you would transfer these talkgroups and other talkgroups on here for like: Fire, EMS, OPP Talkgroups, MOH Talkgroups, MNR Talkgroups, and MTO Talkgroups, into actual freq's. If someone can tell me the freq's for the: Toronto Police Service (which I posted above) and for the EMS, FIRE, TTC (SUBWAY) and anything else that is worth while to listen to in Toronto while I am there I would appreciate it. I will be waiting for your replies. Thanks.

Ok, it seems like you're a bit lost on the idea of trunking systems. The talkgroups you posted are of little use without the system frequencies. To get you started with things, look at this link: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=738

There are 4 sites listed: North, South, East and West. According to my research, the Pro-2045 can't do trunking, so program all of the frequencies for one (or more) of the sites listed above, lock out any frequencies that broadcast noise (those would be the control channels) and try to keep up with the conversations. Unfortunately without a trunk tracking scanner that will be somewhere between hard and impossible. And you're even further SOL with the OPP (your scanner can't decode P25 digital) and EMS, MTO, MNR and so forth...they're all on a VHF trunking system...Bell Fleetnet...the link below can take you there.

There may be some conventional frequencies that you can listen to (http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&ctid=4326) in Toronto. In fact, I'm 100% certain there are conventional frequencies that you can listen to, if you want to. It may involve some searching (with the scanner and/or google or the TAFL) but there may be something that interests you. Maybe not public safety, but your scanner isn't capable of handling any of those systems.

Good luck.

Cool,

Unfortunately, you cannot "convert" these talkgroups to specific frequencies because
they are shared on the TPS system by all users. You need a "trunktracking" scanner that
will do the work for you; the PRO-2045 is not capable of that.

Also, you are mixing up two different systems. TPS on on their system, 800MHz Motorola.
Provincial users such as OPP, MTO, MOH are on a completely different VHF Motorola system.
For OPP, you would need a digital trunktracker, which is considerably more expensive than
an analog trunktracker. The new price for a digital scanner such as the Uniden BC796 is
about $750CDN new before taxes. You can still hear OPP on an ordinary scanner from their
mobile repeaters, simplex, and some low-power UHF repeaters (BEAT, URBAN). Check the
database here, read up about trunking, and figure out where to you want to go for there...

Hello again. I was just wondering if anyone on here would know any freq's for any of the Media places, like the Newsrooms: CBC, CFMT, CFRB, 680 News: the traffic chopper and Ground, City TV, Pulse 24, Global TV. Any other places to like (if they have any): The Weather Network, TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, The FAN 590. If anyone else knows of any other freq's for other places that are worth listening to I have not named or mentioned in this E-mail please tell me them. I will be waiting for any responses to this E-mail. Thanks again.

CFTO used to hang out on the Fleetcom system but the last time I saw one of their shooters out and about he was using an iDEN phone. Global is also using phones but I believe CityTV still uses two-way radios to talk to shooters, although they may use voice inversion. Others may be able to assist with more information.

Most places like TSN, Sportsnet and CFMT aren't really geared towards breaking news and therefore probably don't use two-ways...I believe Sportsnet equips shooters with cells and/or Blackberries. Ditto for CBC.

Again, if you're talking about intercom/IFB/wireless mics, you have a range issue to deal with as well as the problem that your 2045 (probably) can't listen in on the 500 MHz range where these types of things hang out.

OK. Would you happen to know the freq's for the Two-Way Radio's that you believe City-TV still uses. I was just talking about anything that had to do with the news rooms, sports rooms, etc. What about the traffic reporters like for 680 News, The Fan 590, and other radio stations that do traffic reports. Would they use any type of radio that you could listen to them when they talk. Also for the Subway, is there any other freq's that I should know about other than the ones that are listed on here, that anyone would know, or is that all the freq's for them that are listed on here. I just want to know, because this is my first time bringing a scanner to Toronto to listen to. And if there is any other freq's that are worth listening to which I have not mentioned in my E-mails, could anyone give them to me, so I can listen to them while I am there. I will be waiting for any replies to this E-mail. Thanks again.

City still seems to be on 453.7875 with a PL of 100.
They rarely use voice inversion.

I havent heard any other TV broadcaster on my scanner save 162.330 CFRB/Mix Whatever FM although I have never paid much attention.
CFTO used to be around 152 something but that was many many moons ago (and a full head of hair).

As for traffic reports that should be a LTR system that Corus communications 9Q107, Y108, AM 640, ETC) use but I have never ever heard anything on it.
i tried to program it into my 246 but heard nothing. I travel the 401 every day but nothing.

OK. Thanks for the info on that. One more thing I would like answered. Would those freq's listed on here for the Subway be the only ones or are there others that I should know, if there is could someone tell me them. Also would any one on here know of any other good things to listen to in Toronto, like freq's for the MNR, Security people for the malls, Wonderland, CN Tower, etc. If any one can tell me the freq's for those and any other good things to listen to, I would appreciate it. I will be waiting for your replies to this E-mail. Thanks again.

You may be forced to search out some business frequencies on your own. Mall security may be kind of low-power (unless, perhaps, we're talking about that huge-ass Vaughan Mills mall) since there isn't much need to cover a wide area.

MNR, you're SOL. They're on Fleetnet (which is a VHF Motorola type 2 system) and P25 digital, neither of which your 2045 can do. And from a listening point of view, all I've ever heard on the MNR talkgroups are conservation officers doing checks and coming on/going off shift. Makes listening to MTO enforcement seem interesting by comparison...
