Toronto Police Terms

I've been listening to TPS for a while now, and I jsut want someone to clarrify for me the following term they use:

Old clothes (is this the same as plain clothes?) Or are they in old 50's style clothing hehe..

Its been bugging me so I thought I'd ask.

Yea, I think they are saying "plain cloths" too.

Old clothes is a term that has been around since at least the 70s, I could be wrong but plain clothes is cops in suits, old clothes is cops in jeans. If there is anyone with metro in here I am sure they can answer this question. I have monitored a lot of police agencies and only in metro have I ever heard this term.

You are correct..Plain Clothes is Cops in Suits IE: Investigating stuff...OLD CLOTHES is Undercover..not the undercover like sting operation but undercover where they mingle the strrets in very unmarked cars....T-shirts..ball cap ect....Hope this helps

hehe very unmarked Classic.. But thanks again for the clarification. I wasnt sure exactly who was wearing suits, and who was dressed in normal clothes.
