Toronto Police Service is under a radio replacement program. In their budget they have allocated funds to replace all the radios with new p25 radios. Once all the radios have been replaced and the upgrade to the infustructure, the Big Switchover will start. 2012 is the year this is supposed to happen according to their time schedule on a document released by Toronto City. There is a link to this document released in the archives in this forum, for those who wish to view it.
I believe that there are 600 more radios to be replaced, according to the budget from the city, for the last quarter of this year. They have maintained and will continue to maintain their Motorola system in analog in the mean time as best they can until the time will come to switch over. But this could happen anytime soon, 2012 is just around the corner.
Its still anybodys guess as for encryption, or not, or general talkgroup channels.
But it takes time to manufacture these radios and send them to toronto.
As toronto placed an order for them, a couple years ago. They have the majority of them. But they have budgeted the cost, and how many radios are required, for the various city services.
