Torrington FD still using VHF or have they completely transitioned to CLMRN?

I would like to use a UNIDEN BCD996XT (as opposed to the BCD996P2) to monitor Torrington FD on CLMRN. First, will the XT version work for CLMRN? Secondly, if the XT does work on CLMRN, can I program it MANUALLY? I can see the frequencies listed on the RR database. Do I need to enter all or just control channels? And, I’m not sure on what additional parameters I would need to program. I realize I could program with all frequencies listed for Torrington or just control channels but if I don’t have those additional settings (parameters) set correctly I won’t know if either set of frequencies work. I only have a need to monitor Torrington FD.

The 996XT is P25 Phase I only; it will not monitor CLMRN. I have one in my truck, I love it, however, if you want to monitor CLMRM you need a Phase II capable scanner.

I had severe problems with CLMRN and multiple 996P2 radios. I got the SDS 200 and it works perfectly. Some people use the 996P2 without issue, but after my issues with multiple units, I won't try that again.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I need a P2 version or an SDS model. My application is a simple one, just monitoring Torrington FD. If they are not simulcasting on their old VHF High band frequencies then Im out of luck.

As of about two weeks ago they were still on their VHF. I was also hearing the PD on the VHF too, but I suspect that won't last.
@nhfdcadet would know for sure. Also with CLMRN , especially in places in Litchfield County where you can receive multiple sites easily due to terrain, you'll want the SDS. The 996P2 is terrible with simulcast, and the 536hp, while better, is still pretty bad.

Unless you are monitoring from Torrington, I would suggest using CLMRN so you will also hear the fireground traffic.

You could also look into a Unication G4 or G5.

TFD is still simulcasting on analog as of today. Not sure for how much longer, but I suspect it'll be some length of time. I agree with everyone else, you'll get fireground comms through the CLMRN. The analog can be hit or miss in terms of reception. The only downside to the CLMRN is you won't hear every initial dispatch depending on if there is a radio currently affiliated or not, however I've found that I hardly miss any calls.

Their VHF is patched with their CLMRN talk group, and as far as I know their subscribers only use the CLMRN TFD dispatch, they also use vhf firegrounds with vehicle repeaters to respective talk groups
