Hi. Does anyone know if Torrington Fire is transmitting on CLMRN? The RR database shows them on both CLMRN and using conventional VHF freqs. But i have a Unication G5 with only their CLMRN talkgroups programmed, and i've heard nothing in over 3 months. Thanks for any info.

You should check you programming as they are active on the system. They are heard on Troop B & L sites. Also, those sites are now in the West Zone and the Site IDs changed.

Compare your G5 to the database, DB info is accurate

Hopefully you or someone here can verify my findings concerning Litchfield County Dispatch (LCD). It is my understanding that LCD is run out of Torrington FD HQ, next to the old firehouse, which is now the Bad Dog Brewing Co. Bad Dog has kept the “FD” atmosphere inside. It seems an antique fire truck came with the old firehouse and is parked inside one of the engine bays. I am related to the owner and have visited the establishment, which brings me to my question… I thought adding some audio, set to a low volume, to the old truck would help further enhance the atmosphere. So I took an old BCD800D and programmed in the long list of VHF High Band frequencies, (the BCD800D will not receive the CLMRN). I figured being so close to the antenna tower on the new FD HQ would not require much of an antenna, the stock antenna should suffice. But it doesn’t work. My first thought was the scanner had seen better days so on my next visit I also monitored using a Uniden SDS100. Still nothing, even though I visited around the time the evening tone tests are normally conducted. I think I heard only one transmission. A closer look at the tower gave me the thought the structure was being used to link the VHF High Band frequencies via micro wave? They may have had one VHF High Band antenna for Torrington but the remaining county towns had their own towers used for FD’s which were linked to LCD via other means. So, short of placing an expensive CLMRN capable scanner in that fire truck it looks like I’m out of luck. Any insight on this is?

I don't believe the tower at the firehouse is part of the simulcast, the closest site would be soapstone hill, which you should still receive there theoretically. I know my pager and radio will receive LCD from inside of LCD right next door, so I can't really imagine why you wouldnt hear it inside of bad dog. Did you try the scanner outside the building at all?
I could be wrong and they actually do broadcast from that site, which could mean that your scanner is just in the "cone of silence" under the antenna

I have a G5 pager. if you change the "WACN" in the programming field to "fffff" 5 f's then the unit searches out the site info. I had to do that for Troops L and B which I receive from my location in Bloomfield. Its an easy fix once you know.

I’m only trying to hear the VHF High Band Frequencies, not CLMRN. Wondering if you know what specific VHF High Band frequencies are broadcast from the tower at LCD…

I don't believe anything is broadcast from there full time on the VHF, just control station antennas and they might have a backup transmitter for the county VHF, I know that was the case at troop L, if both dispatch and dispatch legacy were down, they still had a single backup site at troop L. I'd assume that when they moved to torrington, that transmitter moved to torrington with them.

Ok. Thank you. It explains why there is nothing to be heard inside the Bad Dog Brewing Co. I think I will just program in Torrington’s FD frequencies and let it go at that.

Thanks for the tip Alec. I had my G5 programmed by the retailer i bought it from, and i haven't yet attempted to do any programming myself.

verified last night, the tower there is not part of the simulcast. I'd think maybe the interference from the building or some other interference is blocking the signal out
