I just purchased a Uniden BCD325P2 because I read it was a good beginner scanner. All I want to do is program the different CPD zones. I've read up on some things but still so confused.

Welcome to the scanning hobby. There is a lot to learn about scanning with the P25 radio systems. I suggest that you spend some time looking on the internet to learn a little bit about P25. I say this because the Columbus OH area uses the Ohio MARCS system for most all police/Fire/EMS radio traffic.

Here is a link to the Ohio MARCS-IP: Multi-Agency Radio Communications system:

Spend some time watching videos on how to program your scanner with software, the time will be well spent.

Thank you!
Please note that Sentinel doesn't work with the 325P2 but the general information regarding MARCs is valid. Proscan is a very popular program that is used for the 325P2. I use it in fact and its great. There is a a now non-supported free software called "Freescan" which may also work for programming. I believe the link for it is still valid in one of the Software Wikis here. Welcome and good luck. Ask as many questions as you need to understand the process. It's best that you learn and understand how to program your own scanner. Systems change all the time and if you can manage that on your own, it will make the hobby so much more enjoyable.

First issue - Columbus sites are all simulcast, 325 will, probably, not work well.

You will also quickly reach the memory limits on the number of talkgroups per system. You can break down and create systems for each zone, but the duplication will slow it down to a snail.

Due to simulcast distortion, Columbus is notoriously difficult to monitor with any scanner other than an SDS model. However, depending on your location your unit may work.

You might want to ask to have your post moved to the Ohio forum as there are lots of Columbus area fellas who can likely help you out.

That said, there are a number of multipath mitigation suggestions you can try in the wiki linked below. You may or may not find one that works in your situation. But yes, the Uniden SDSx00s are the preferred tool for the simulcast job. Welcome to the RR forums, @Mmooney
