I have been trying to figure out how the starnet and trunking stuff works with the Pro-94 I have. in Friendswood and have been trying to set up the harris county info.
I have read and read on how to program and it just doesnt seem to work like it says its supposed to. Also am totally confused as to what I'm supposed to enter and set up from the harris county info page.

HELP

BTW, I am a scanner noob and discovered this site. great site and I appreciate any help.

also you really dont need to enter all of the frequencies , just the control channel frequencies, any talkgroups that broadcast on thier own site will come out of your scanners speaker just by trunk tracking the control channel freq's

I have read the manual, I have read the tutorials online, I still dont get the ptogramming of the trunking and what the extra number mean and how they work, for example, it gives frequencies in red and blue, then it has departments listed with another number not like a frequency. I know its not working correctly and when I set it up step by step like it says, still not doing like its supposed to per the easy to understand tutorials. crap, I'm a pretty smart feller and this is rediculous.

like where does the "dec" and "hex' come in?
look at this page of info,( http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=38 ) its the starnet trunking from South Texas harris county what would I input? where do i start? I basically went through and programmed the red and blue frequencies just like I programed the "A" bank with local "hot" or "busy" frequencies.
Basically, I can input these so called trunked frequencies on the "B" bank and when I hit "trunk" button, I dont see as it does anything different.
Maybe I just dont understand what "trunked" does after reading a billion dofferent pages on it.

whats the difference in a "Control channel" frequency and others that are not I see the "RED" ones are the control. I am thinking if I input certain ones (red), then it will search and find the others that are "trunked" on the same system?

for example on the page I listed in the previous post, do I need to go down the list and input the control frequencies of the areas i wanna listen to and then what do the hex and dec numbers mean?

ok, now, I asked a wrecker driver today if he had some frequencies for the Friendswood PD. he said nope, they are 'trunked" so, does anybody have any frequencies for them or will they just magically be on the "Star-net"?

crap, I'm so happy I'm gonna do a pay pal contribution and be a bonified member :)

signed,
not so confused

Looks to me like Friendswood PD isnt on STARNET , they have conventional Frequencies in the 400mhz range http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&ctid=2606
yeah, I found those, but they dont have any activity, was wondering if anybody knew of current changes ?

I have the "A" bank set up with conventional frequencies and just scan through those and the "B" bank set up with the trunk stuff.
I have it like "B bank, channel 1" for the starnet, if I find another trunk, could / should I put it on B b, c 2 ?

I typed in "Friendswood TX" in the little white box up at the top near "Search" and it took me to here. Looks like you're programming another trunk.

HTH, Mike
this is a different trunk that starnet?
If I remember correctly, this data was from the starnet group. lemme do some looking.

ok edit:
Me in my limited scanner knowledge, I guess i read this as a different trunk all together. I had its frequencies blended on the B trunk bank in channel one with the starnet frequencies. Should I remove the frequencies for the galveston trunk and start another trunk on B bank channel 2?

The Galveston County system is being moved into STARNet. Both systems in the south are in a state of flux. Things change on a daily basis. Head over to the HoustonScan yahoo group and go through the last month's worth of messages you will see what is happening. The DB here will be more up-to-date as soon as the STARNet techs quit messing with it. As a new scanner user, I would just ignore the Galveston system and concentrate on the STARNet system, but check for tower changes everyday on the HoustonScan yahoo group.

Last time I checked Fwd PD is not on 800 yet. According to some of the people I have talked to they never really wanted to switch over anyone because they didnt want to fork over the money for new radios. I know the Sgt. on duty did have an 800 radio they switched out each shift so they could talk to everyone else if needed. I guess Fwd finally decided that they were the only ones in the area not going to 800 so they are starting to make the switch. I have heard that Fwd Fire/EMS is not going to be going to 800, only the PD.
