Team Phonak disbanded in 2006, so that can't be last year's frequencies.

The Tour Is Rolling Into Sacramento

The tour is rolling into Sacramento (from Santa Rosa) today, should make for good scanning. I would monitor CHP Blue, Extender, OCAPS (it ends at the Capitol), Solano SO, Yolo SO, Davis PD, Woodland PD, West Sac PD, the SRRCS County/City Tac's, Sac PD RW's/Tac's, as well as the freq's above.

Below are the coverage plans for us:

We will provide special live coverage of the second stage of the Tour of California bike race as the riders make their way to Sacramento. Some of the coverage will be included in the Noon Newscast. All of it will stream live on www.kcra.com

Here are some of the basics:

- We will have regular news coverage of the race in our early morning newscasts and during the "Today Show" updates.
- Some of our content such as the real-time race maps will be available on www.kcra.com once the race begins.
- Live race coverage with our full crew begins with the Noon Newscast. It will be a regular noon show... but with a heavy dose of race coverage.
- Continuous coverage begins at 1pm on www.kcra.com We expect to conclude by 3:00pm.
- Chris Riva and Del Rodgers anchor.
- We will have an expert commentator.
- Deirdre Fitzpatrick reports from the finish line near the north steps of the State Capitol.
- Brian Hickey reports from the course near 18th and "L" Streets.
- Dann Shively reports from LiveCopter 3 HD.
- Jorge Velasquez will be live from one of the team support cars.

Traffic Info:

CalTrans;

Sacramento - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that motorists traveling on I-5, State Highway 113 and State Highway 128 on Tuesday, February 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. can expect intermittent delays as competitors in the "Tour of California" bike race travel through Sacramento and Yolo Counties:

State Highway 113 (Davis and Yolo County): at the Russell Blvd. off-ramp. Traffic will be detoured to Hutchinson Blvd. to the south and Covell Blvd. to the north. Local police will be managing traffic in Davis.

State Highway 128 (Woodland): from the Yolo County Line to West Main Street: The California Highway Patrol will assist with full rolling lane and ramp closures and traffic breaks.

I-5 (Woodland): southbound only, from the Junction of I-5/State Highway 113 in Woodland south to the River Road exit. This route will be affected only in the unlikely event that County Road 22 is flooded due to heavy rain. If County Road 22 is open, only the north and southbound County Road 102 off-ramps from I-5 will be closed. The California Highway Patrol will assist with full rolling lane and ramp closures and traffic breaks.

Tower Bridge (State Highway 275) (Sacramento): Cyclists will enter Sacramento from West Capitol Avenue to ride over the Tower Bridge heading toward the finish line in downtown Sacramento. The California Highway Patrol will assist with full rolling lane closures and traffic breaks.

Caltrans urges all motorists to use caution when traveling in these areas.

City of Sacramento;

The City of Sacramento is advising the public of temporary, significant traffic impacts on Tuesday, February 19 associated with the Amgen Tour of California bicycle race, which is slated to finish at the State Capitol.

Beginning at 9 .p.m. on Monday, February 18,10th Street from N to K streets will be closed as will L Street from 10th to 15th streets.

On February 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., no parking will be allowed on the following streets and there will be intermittent street closures between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Emergency vehicles will be allowed but local access will be limited.

9th Street from L to N
N Street from 9th to 15th
15th Street from N to P
P Street from 15th to 18th
18th Street from L to P
L Street from 9th to 18th

Capitol Mall may be closed for approximately 15 minutes as the race proceeds to the finish line, which will be between about 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.

Consequently, parking will be limited. Approximately 400 parking meters will be bagged around 6 p.m. on Monday, February 18. Cars remaining after Tuesday at 9 a.m. will be towed.

The City's Capitol Garage at 10th and L streets will be closed to "daily visitors" on the day of the event and only be available to monthly contract holders. Monthly parkers will be able to access the garage via the alley between 9th and 10th streets.

The City's Police and Transportation departments are encouraging commuting alternatives on the day of the event. If unavoidable, all day parkers should utilize a near-by parking facility and avoid traveling by car from 1 pm - 3 pm.

Bicycling to the event is highly encouraged. Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates are sponsoring a free bicycle valet service on the Capitol grounds, between the west steps and The Lifestyle Festival on 10th Street between L and N. The valet bike parking from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. works like a hatcheck for bikes, with volunteers checking bikes in and out and no locks are needed.

Due to the large number of spectators anticipated, the Department of Transportation also will have staff monitoring the occupancy of all City garages. When nearing capacity, drivers will be directed to alternative parking garages. Parking Services highly recommends using the Old Sacramento Garage at 3rd and I streets, the Downtown Plaza West Garage at L and 3rd streets, the Downtown Plaza East Garage with entrances on J and L streets and the Tower Bridge garage off Capitol. For a map of all City garages, please go to www.cityofsacramento.org/transportation under "Off-Street Parking." No spectators are allowed at City parking facilities.

If there is anyone out there with digital TV over-the-air; I understand you can watch the race on KXTV sub channel 3, or 10.3 or physical channel 61.3 on your ATSC dial. This channel is being added just for today.

I love over-the-air DTV, to bad my station hasn't grasped the extent of it's uses yet.

When John Kelly owned KCRA, they broadcast every local sports event, regardless of interest, and even if it meant we didn't get to see NBC programming. Last Olympics it was KCRA (3.2) that carried coerage around the clock (no events I wanted to see though). But now with HD taking up lots of bandwidth, and WeatherPlus there is not much extra bandwidth. The best KCRA could do now is stream on their web site and keep ads to a minimum.

I am watching the coverage on 10.3/61.3 and it is interesting. I'm also monitoring the newsroom UHF frequencies; and they are talking a little about the race. So far the most discussion has been from City PD regarding who is allowed to park and/or allowed into the restricted area downtown.

We also have KQCA that we could use when needed.
