Hi, I am new to the world of scanning. I purchased a pro-197 scanner, win500, and a radio-reference subscription (e.g., all the tools i think i need to get up and running w/ digital trunking). I've done a web import of the town of colonie, but when I scan the appropriate list I get nothing all day long.

Here is what I got:
ID:00000
Alpha Tag:Colonie Area
Type: P25 Auto
Dwell:0
AGC/Supertrack:On

All talkgroups imported (35) + wildcard (2)

System Frequencies:
855.462500
856.262500
857.262500
858.262500
859.262500
860.262500

Trunking Tables: Default

Standard Band Plan:<select>
000000

Is my problem that I need to change the trunking tables to Splinter or Customer? or my bandplan?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Try inputting these trunking tables:

0 4095 0 851.00625 6.250
4096 8191 4096 762.00625 6.250

The forum software doesn't allow the tables to align properly, so this will not look to you like it does to me.

Thanks, I think I was just a little to far out of range in Bethlehem. I had no idea these systems were so limited in scope. I got it to work in the heart of Colonie. Much appreciated.

I'm in the VILLAGE of Colonie about a mile in a straight line from Albany International, and mine comes in spotty.

Just a quick update, I bought the radioshack 800mhz antenna and I can now receive colonie where i live (800MHz Scanner Antenna - RadioShack.com). It's like night and day. The conv channels seem a little better too, though my understanding is that is not the intent/design of the 800mhz antenna. Highly recommend.

Yep, the little 800Mhz is definitely an improvement. I bought radioshacks larger rubber ducky which works pretty well from the stock rubber ducky. I have the 800Mhz for Colonie's system and it destroys both antennas with 800Mhz trunking frequencies.
