License freeze happens when negotiations between Nextel and affected frequency holders begin in a wave (region). For NC, it means middle of next year.

The Town of Mint Hill was issued a license for its proposed 800MHz TRS today. Callsign: WQCX284.

I have heard through the grapevine that the city of Pineville, in southern Charlotte, is also requesting a stand-alone 800 trunk system.

Anything new on the Mint Hill system?
Am I to assume that Matthews would stay on the CharMeck TRS?
I do alot of monitoring of these two areas and find it suprising that Mint Hill, the slower of the 2 would want to go out on their own with all the added expense.

If they follow through with the construction schedule filed with the original license application, April of this year would be the target for putting their 5 channels on the air.

Always that big "IF" with some of these proposed systems.

I understand the elected officials accepted proposals and granted a contract for the construction to begin. Not sure on the timeline, but the grapevine syas Pineville will begin dispatching Mint Hill PD on or about July 1 of this year. At this time I beleive MAtthews will remain on Char-Meck. I hear many times Mint Hill and Matthews backing each other up, it is going to be hard when they are on seperate TG's not to mention seperate systems all together!

Coverage Issue?

Mint Hill going to the Pineville system would seem to be a cause of concern from a coverage standpoint. I live about two miles into the Union County side of Mint Hill and cannot pick up the Pineville 800 TRS signal from my house with the RS800 rubber duck and even the Scantenna on the roof.
Could cause problems.

I agree with the last post. If they do this you'd think it would take some work. I live off Rea Rd., I'm actually closer to Pineville than Mint Hill and signal strength is marginal where I am.

Does Mint Hill P.D. currently do its own dispatching, or does the county handle it?

they (mint hill pd) are currently dispatched by Matthews PD, on the Char-Meck system. Mint Hill is building their own TRS, which will include a 380 foot tower on hiway 218 at I-485. I hear there will be a microwave in Mint Hill and one in Pineville.

I still find it amazing that Mint Hill would have anything to do with Pineville. Why would they need a microwave in Pineville? The two towns (almost villages) are not adjacent to each other.

Sounds like Pineville will dispatch Mint Hill on Mint Hill's separate TRS.

Microwave will link Pineville 911 to Mint Hill site.

If they had been really smart, Matthews, Pineville, and Mint Hill could have built a shared system that would have covered all three jurisdictions quite nicely and at a reduced expenditure. Interoperability would have been guaranteed as well.

Still not understandable why they want no part of the CharMeck system.
