Looks like the switch got thrown after 9 am today. "All Units this side switch over to your encrypted radio, switch over to your new radio"

If you go and listen to the ID'S, all traffic stopped immediately on D and G, but continued on A. All districts can be heard on A till almost 17:00 with dispatchers saying either your on the wrong channel or wrong radio. Not being near anything to see if there is encrypted traffic on the A,D or G or if they created a new ID and if all districts are on a single new ID. Until I got some time behind a scanner I don't know.

Sounds like TFD is dispatching in the clear and the units are encrypted.

If you click on the ID you'll see/hear there is very little traffic from units. Most of the traffic is just dispatchers, which is good. That way you can hear if there are traffic accidents to avoid.

the fire personnel communicate all status changes with their status boxes in the fire apparatus. the only time you’ll hear fire personnel are when they are communicating information about an incident to one another or with other units. there is no encryption in place. however..

sometime in the year 2024 Tulsa FD are looking to switch to encryption. I was told by the fire department’s chief of communications.

also Tulsa PD. switching to the big “ E “ It’s been in the works for a year. the new TGIDs have always been there. the process of all the mobile and portable radios being updated one by one was the holdup. this was orders by the TPD Chief and was done “ to keep the officers and public safe “ I was also told that this was to shut down main-side and outside agencies can no longer monitor them.

I'm not surprised by any of this at all. There are too many wackers, auditors, fake media junkies, and other people that are showing up to scenes that have no business being there. It's been going on for years and with the advent of the smart phone and scanner monitoring apps taking it to a new level agencies are taking advantage of encryption now available to them and using it. I hope it helps keep them safe. Been scanning Tulsa since 1993. Sounds like after 30 years of listening we will have to find other things to listen to. I will continue to monitor RMAs, SMAs, and any agency that stays in the clear. Surprised it actually didn't happen sooner. When EMSA switched to it in 2004 it was only a matter time.

I wonder if they will still tone out higher priority calls on RMA-2A?
I did hear this morning on TG 1939 (the old RID Dispatch) a call about an EPB activation on a MVD unit. So obviously an all call, but not sure if it made it to RMA.

If you had the AES loaded to hear Service Side (J) and car to car you don't need a new key for the dispatch like you do for EMSA. I only know of Unicom that can add keys for consumers.

It only took them 20 years after DHS gave all these cities a grant to move to encrypted style trunks.

Like we really needed it.

Probably the government will need this cloaking for some rotten rat fink in the near future.

Not sure what safety issues they were having cause listening to them, they're not disclosing much in the first place. Now your SSNs and your license plates, your names and everything, no need to protect any of that, but ironically now that everything is big E.

Although this big E has been in the works for a couple of decades, isn't this the same police chief that wants us to be relieved of our 2nd Amendment rights following the shoot 'em up at the Saint Francis Hospital? Of course most hospital operations have already been big E for some time already.

Looks like Tulsa's encryption made the news today. Tulsa Police Department encrypts radios, public citizens no longer have access to listen

I wonder if the news just didn't get it right, but I have been listening for over 20 years and do not recall ever hearing a social security number being read over a TPD dispatch sub fleet. In fact, I haven't heard a social security number read over the air on any sub fleet in at least 10 years. Encrypting the tactical sub fleets was understandable for situations where there was a tactical concern.

Yeah. I would have figured if it was in the works for decades they would have made the switch when the Tulsa site converted to digital and the other non-dispatch channels went E years ago.

Pretty sure the encrypted Service Side J, Records K/L and Teletype M talkgroups were supposed to be created for sharing sensitive information... also doesn't DOJ say PII isn't supposed to be broadcast over the air and use more secure methods like MDTs?
